Parry's Story - Part 1: The Surgery
When Parryβs recovery took a difficult turn, two world class surgeons flew out to Cameroon to give him a second chance. Read his story here.
When Parry broke his leg, our team did everything they could to give him the best possible start to his recovery. But nature does not always follow the plan, and Parry's road to healing was about to become a great deal more complicated.
In the weeks following his original surgery, it became clear that his recovery was not progressing as hoped. Parry had begun bearing weight on the leg too soon, disrupting the healing process and causing further damage. It was a setback that required urgent action, and our team knew that specialist intervention was the only way to give him a genuine chance going forward.
What happened next was a testament to the dedication of the people who care about Parry and all of the primates of Ape Action Africa.
Two highly experienced surgeons made the journey out to our sanctuary in the Cameroon rainforest to help. Dr Romain Pizzi, one of the world's leading exotic wildlife veterinarians, and Dr Peter Sedman, a highly experienced human abdominal surgeon, flew themselves out from the UK, bringing specialist equipment with them. Together they carried out further surgery to reinforce Parry's leg with metal supports, stabilising the injury and preparing him for the next stage of his recovery.
In the video below, Dr Romain explains exactly what the team had to do and how they worked together to give Parry the best possible future.
Stay tuned for Part 2, where we share how Parry is getting on in the days following his surgery.
