Labour Day 2026, Medals, Marching and a Lot of Pride.
Ape Action Africa team
Every year we are proud to join the Labour Day parade in Mfou, marching alongside workers from all sectors of the community to celebrate the hard work and dedication that goes into building a better Cameroon.
This year our team showed up in force. Caregivers, vets, kitchen staff, construction workers, security, drivers and educators all marched together, dressed in their Ape Action Africa t-shirts, proud to represent the sanctuary and the work we do here in the Cameroon rainforest. But this year the parade held an extra special meaning for us, because three of our longest serving team members were honoured with long service medals in recognition of their extraordinary dedication to Ape Action Africa.
Mbeme Care Giver Francis (Left), Education Charles (Right)
Mr Alfred - Baby Care Giver
Alfred received a gold service medal marking an incredible 30 years of service. Three decades of showing up, of caring, and of giving everything to this sanctuary and the primates in our care. Alfred's commitment to Ape Action Africa is something that simply cannot be put into words.
Appolinaire received 2 service medals in recognition of 23 years of dedication. Appolinaire has been a cornerstone of our team for over two decades, and his contribution to the sanctuary and the residents in our care has been immeasurable.
Mr Appolinaire - Manager
Crescence received 2 service medals for 19 years of commitment to our sanctuary. Nineteen years of hard work, dedication, and care for the primates who call Ape Action Africa home.
Madam Crescence - Head of Kitchen
30 years, 23 years, 19 years. Between the three of them, that is 72 years of service to Ape Action Africa. We could not be more proud.
To Alfred, Appolinaire and Crescence, thank you. For every single day you have given to this sanctuary and the residents in our care. You are the backbone of everything we do here, and moments like this are a small but important reminder of just how much that means.
To every member of our team who marched with us in Mfou on Friday, thank you too. Days like this remind us just how lucky we are to have the people we have.
