From Urgent Repairs to a Secure New Enclosure for Our Guenons

Rescued guenon monkey at Ape Action Africa sanctuary in Cameroon

Earlier this year, we shared an urgent appeal.

One of our guenon monkey enclosures had deteriorated to the point where temporary repairs were no longer enough. The fencing was rusted, sections were unstable, and long term safety could not be guaranteed without significant work.

We asked for help to raise £2,000 to reinforce and secure the structure.

Thanks to that support, the enclosure has now been fully rebuilt and strengthened.

The new guenon monkey enclosure at Ape Action Africa in Cameroon provides reinforced fencing, improved structural stability, and secure vertical space designed around the way guenons move and interact. These monkeys are fast, agile, and constantly active at height. Their enclosure must reflect that.

This was not a cosmetic upgrade. It was a safety priority.

Our team removed weakened sections, reinforced the frame, and ensured the structure meets the standards required for long term housing. The completed enclosure now offers both security and the vertical complexity guenons rely on.

Enclosure safety directly affects animal welfare. Without secure boundaries, everything else is compromised.

This work strengthens our ability to provide long term, species appropriate care for rescued guenon monkeys at our sanctuary in Cameroon.

It also reflects something simple. When we share a need, and people respond, real change happens on the ground.
