Facts, figures and charity status
How much does it cost to run Ape Action Africa primate sanctuary?
It costs approximately £300,000 each year to operate Ape Action Africa and provide long term sanctuary care for rescued primates in Cameroon. The organisation’s primary costs are food for the animals and salaries for the dedicated team working on site in Cameroon. There are no salary costs outside the country, as all administrative work for the charity is carried out by volunteers.
Caring for more than 280 primates involves significant ongoing costs, including daily feeding and essential veterinary treatment. Ape Action Africa is deeply grateful for the continued support received from donors and volunteers around the world, whose contributions make this work possible.
As a small charity, raising sufficient funds to support the sanctuary is an ongoing challenge, particularly in the current economic climate. Continued support is essential to ensure that rescued chimpanzees, gorillas, and monkeys receive the care and protection they need in Mefou Forest.
Ape Action Africa is a registered charity in both the United Kingdom and the United States. Further information about the organisation’s charitable status can be found in the footer of each page on this website.
