Mega is a red-capped mangabey who arrived at Ape Action Africa in 2013 after poachers tried to sell him as a pet. At only 3-months old, he had injuries from the bullets that had killed his mother and required 24-hour care. Thanks to his dedicated caregivers at Mefou he recovered well and is now a stunning alpha male in charge of his own troop.

Red-capped mangabeys are very vocal monkeys, and this sadly makes it easy for poachers to locate them in the forest. They are threatened by both deforestation and hunting, and this once common species is now classified as endangered.
