We'd like to wish all of our supporters a very Happy New Year!

Your help was vital for our successes in 2019, and with new rescues continuing to arrive at our sanctuary, we need your support more than ever in 2020. Covering our running costs of approximately £250,000 a year is a huge challenge for us, so we're asking you to please take up our January fundraising challenge and Give it up for Ape Action Africa!

What do we want you to do?

The challenge is simple - choose something that you love and give it up. Then donate the money that you save and help us care for our orphaned gorillas, chimpanzees and monkeys.

What can you give up?

Anything! It's that time of year when people traditionally make New Year's resolutions, so you might already have decided to try to resist the temptation of chocolate, reduce your alcohol intake or cut down on caffeine. Do it for us and you'll have another reason to stick to your resolution. Or if you need an idea, you could spend a cosy night in front of the TV instead of going to the cinema. Or why not enjoy a homemade pizza instead of visiting your favourite Italian restaurant?

How long do you need to give it up for?

It's completely up to you! You could take the challenge for a month, a week or even a few hours. Giving just £3 will feed one of our baby chimps for a day, so every donation really does count.

What if you give up something that doesn't cost you any money?

No problem! If you decide to sacrifice your Saturday mornings in bed to go running in the park, you can still raise money for us by asking friends and family to sponsor you.

How can you raise even more?

Set yourself a fundraising goal, tell everyone what you're doing, and ask them to consider donating to show their support. Email us at [email protected] and we can help you to set up a fundraising page on our website. Or why not persuade your loved ones to join you by accepting our challenge themselves?

Why take up the challenge?

Thanks to your generosity in 2019, we were able to achieve a huge amount. We provided food, medicine and expert care to over 300 apes and monkeys. We rescued and gave a safe home to even more orphaned primates, including Elizabelle the baboon, Friday the chimpanzee and Mbailasem the gorilla. We were able to complete the construction of our fourth gorilla enclosure, and our agile mangabeys received new climbing structures. Our education team taught local schoolchildren and sanctuary visitors about deforestation, bushmeat and conservation, and they inspired more people to take action to protect endangered primates and their habitats. None of this would have been possible without our fantastic community of supporters. We have big plans for 2020, and a lot of mouths to feed and medical bills to pay for. We need your support and are very grateful for every donation.

If you do take up our challenge, we'd love to hear about it, so please let us know what you're giving up by emailing us or sending us a message on social media (links at the bottom of the page). Thank you and good luck!
