Why not get sponsorship to raise much-needed running costs for the sanctuary or ask people to share your story to raise awareness of the amazing contribution you’re making and the work we do?

Remember, if you want people to get involved with your fundraiser, make it fun, make it easy, and give people options based on what they feel comfortable doing and how much time they have on their hands!

Finally, don’t forget to share all your amazing (and sometimes crazy) fundraising stories and photos on social media… Tag us, and we’ll add them to our social media pages too!

  1. Hold your own AAA birthday BBQ on the weekend of 17th/18th July. Maybe even turn it into a party and invite friends to celebrate in aid of our great apes! Don’t forget to get the disco lights out so your family and friends can donate while they dance the night away!

  1. Run (or walk!) 25 miles for Ape Action Africa during our birthday month of July or any month during our Silver Jubilee year!

  1. Introduce Ape Action Africa to 5 of your friends and ask them to each donate £5 each. They become new supporters of our incredible charity, and you get the satisfaction of knowing that because of you, we have received £25, which will pay for the care for an infant ape for one week.

  1. Do 25 press-ups for 25 days, any time!

  1. Instead of asking for lots of pressies, this year, make a real difference by getting your nearest and dearest to donate to Ape Action Africa instead. Facebook, in particular, makes it super easy for you to use your birthday to raise money for this cause which is so important to you - https://www.facebook.com/help/1910205189301966

  1. Give something up (coffee/alcohol) for 25 days and donate the money you save.

  1. Get baking, make and sell your favourite primate shaped cookies or cakes based on some of our animal's favourite food… Banana bread, anyone?!

  1. How about getting rid of that lockdown hair? Ideas to generate funds for our orphans include a sponsored head or beard shave, eyebrow or leg wax, … or all of the above!

  1. Do you own a restaurant or cafe? Maybe you could leave a donation envelope on each table asking customers to leave a little extra change, anything from 25p to £25 is appreciated, and it all helps raise awareness!

  1. One for our US supporters! Collect enough quarters to stretch them a quarter of a mile, through a parking lot or down your street! Not only will this raise awareness when people ask what you’re doing, but you may find that they start to contribute, and you end up with a 2.5 mile trail instead! Then donate all the quarters and share your crazy story with us!

  1. Guess the JellyBeans (or similar!) Charge 25p/cents a go-to guess how many are in the jar. The winner gets the sweeties, and we get the readies!

  1. Are you a budding artist or craftsperson? Perhaps you could draw or make something that celebrates our 25th year, our Silver Jubilee and then sell it to the highest bidder. Maybe you could get your friends involved and have a little local craft fair of your own?

  1. Host a Discussion. There is lots of help on our ‘Spread the Word’ pages that you could share with other local primate enthusiasts. Perhaps you have a local celebrity who also has amazing stories to share, and you could host an evening with them? As well as raising awareness, you could also ask for donations throughout the night.

  1. Eat and be merry for a good cause! Coordinate with a local bar, cafe or restaurant to co-host a one-off ‘Happy Hour’ or ‘Happy Evening’, where a portion of the sales goes to Ape Action Africa… Invite all your friends to make sure everyone enjoys themselves and makes the most of this unique opportunity! You never know, if it goes well, it may become a more regular thing!

  1. Why not offer a Breakfast in Bed service? Maybe 5 friends, on 5 different mornings can order their breakfast from you, to be delivered to them in bed… For a great ape size fee, of course!

  1. Why not break a world record in our Silver Jubilee year?!

  1. Has it been a frustrating 2021 so far? Why not collect old and chipped crockery and then offer friends the opportunity to purchase 5 balls for £2.50 and see how good it feels to smash as many as they can!

  1. Take a STEP challenge! Get family, friends and colleagues to pledge a certain amount to Ape Action Africa, for every 25,000 steps you take in a day, week, or month, according to your pedometer!

  1. Ape Action Africa is not just about primates; it is about community too! Why not arrange a community clean up day? Those involved can ask for pledges for each bag of rubbish they collect, as they walk around their neighbourhood… Don’t forget your gloves!

  1. Get the kids involved! The future of every endangered primate is in their hands, and the earlier we start to raise their awareness, the better! Dressing up, face painting, drawing, model making are all fun things to do and can help raise awareness of the issues the primates of the world currently face. You could invite the neighbourhood kids and ask for a small donation towards a joint adoption of their favourite orphan at the sanctuary.

  1. Make a Dedication!  In this, our Silver Jubilee year, why not do something really special and buy a dedication plague for a loved one? You can choose from a range of plaque sizes that will be displayed at your chosen enclosure. The cost will either contribute to the maintenance of that enclosure for everyone who lives there or to the care of a specific individual of your choice for one year. MORE INFORMATION TO FOLLOW SHORTLY!

  1. Are you a Silversmith, or do you work with this precious metal? Could you design and make us something spectacular that we could sell or auction to raise much-needed funds to cover our £300,000 running costs? If so, please get in touch here.

  1. Are you a budding singer or comic? Perhaps you could host an evening of fabulous songs or jokes, interspersed with information about the incredible work we do at Ape Action Africa? You could change an entry fee or ask for donations throughout the night… or both! Maybe you could get your friends involved and have a little local festival of your own? Apestock anyone?!

  1. One for October 2021! Vote in our 2022 Calendar competition, get 24 of your friends to do the same, and some of you may end up with your name next to a photo of your favourite rescued primate, in print, forever! Keep an eye out on our social media pages for more details, closer to the time!

  1. It’s never too late to make this a year to remember - What could you do for a year to make a difference? Doing something for 365 days shows ultimate dedication and is a sure way to encourage people to sponsor you. But what to do? How about walking dogs every day for a year and donating the money you make? Or how about giving something up for a whole year?
